You have no doubt read about the ultra-lavish wedding of Jeff Bezos, the boss of Amazon. As one Toronto Star columnist wrote, it was “a filthy obscenity.” His column was reproduced in the Hamilton Spectator.
I checked how much Bezos is worth. At least, that’s how it’s typically phrased, but of course it’s not what people are actually “worth.” It’s how much wealth they have. Bezos has $220 billion.
Now I’m a numbers guy, but I have trouble getting my head around all those zeroes. So I decided to simplify it and put it in terms that showed just how massive his wealth is. I sent the results in a letter to the Spectator:
